Why Take Advanced Placement Courses?

Challenge Yourself

Advanced Placement classes can challenge students in many ways. They require students to think critically and solve problems. In addition, they often require that students read extensively and learn about different subjects. Finally, AP classes can push students to achieve high scores on exams, which can lead to college credits or a degree.

Get a Head Start

Advanced Placement classes can give students a head start in their studies at the collegiate level. By taking AP classes in high school, students can improve their chances of getting into college and receive college credit for the classes they have taken. Additionally, by taking AP classes in college, students can further improve their chances of getting into a top-tier university.

Stand Out from Your Peers

Advanced Placement classes can help students stand out from their peers. By taking AP classes and performing well on the exams, students can demonstrate their academic ability and show that they are interested in pursuing a higher education.

Explore Your Passions

Advanced Placement (AP) classes can help students explore their passions. AP classes are available in a variety of subjects, so whether you're interested in humanities, science, or math, there's probably an AP class that's right for you. At Everwood Virtual, we offer over 30 different AP courses in a variety of subject areas!

Strengthen College Applications

Advanced Placement (AP) classes can give high school students a leg up on the college application process. By taking AP classes, students can demonstrate their mastery of college-level material, which can help them stand out from the crowd. Additionally, by taking AP classes in subjects that are relevant to their desired majors, students can show that they have a strong interest in pursuing a particular field of study.

Give Yourself an Edge in College

Advanced Placement (AP) courses are high-quality, college-level classes that give students an advantage when applying to college. Many colleges award credits and/or advanced standing to students who have completed AP exams. Whether you're looking to score better on exams or develop specific skills for your future career, AP classes can provide a significant edge.

AP Student Expectations

AP students are expected to spend a minimum of 90 minutes per school day (or weekly equivalent) per AP course. Students who can’t meet this expectation are encouraged not to enroll into an AP course due to increased risk of poor performance.

AP Exams

Students enrolled in AP classes are expected to complete the corresponding College Board external exams in May. These exams are scored on a 1-5 scale. Depending on the institution, scores of 4 or 5 can result in a college or university awarding credit, exemption from courses, or advanced standing. Students considering AP courses should seek advice from parents, the course teacher, current students enrolled in the AP course(s) of interest, and their school counselor or academic advisor prior to enrollment. Please note that there is a fee for each AP exam that is paid for by the student.

As a distance education program, Everwood Virtual is not able to offer testing services to students or schools. Please contact your local school counselor and/or principal within 2 weeks of starting this course to discuss setting up a location to sit for the AP Exam in May!
